Hi everyone!

I'm Bjørk and I'm a Swedish/Danish bass player based here in Amsterdam.

I studied mainly jazz and folk/world music, mainly Swedish tradition, but my musical roots are big: I love rock, punk, pop, soul, indie and even though I studied jazz all of these traditions have greatly influenced my playing. Meaning, whatever you want to do is great with me!

Other things besides playing/teaching that I enjoy doing are: cooking, walking in some kind of nature-y area, photography, sauna, and hosting board game nights for my friends.

Hoi allemaal! Ik kom niet uit Nederland maar ik spreek een beetje dus als je een les voor je kind wilt is het ook mogelijk om het in het Nederlands te doen. Ik geef ook piano- en gitaarles aan beginners en kinderen, als je dat interessanter vindt.

My name is Bjørk and I’m a professional double bass player living and teaching here in Amsterdam. I have 2 diplomas in Jazz Bass from Sweden and a degree in Jazz Bass Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I also studied traditional Swedish folk music in Sweden. I started playing music at a very young age, but I first found the double bass at an age of 16, even though I always felt a fascination toward the instrument! In my head, I thought that only certain people were allowed to play this beautiful instrument. But I was wrong, and I hope to prove so with my lessons! My main background is jazz, funky and groovy music, folk music and indie music, but I love many types of music and definitely didn't grow up in a jazz household. In my teen years I was super experimental in my music taste, which has resulted in a penchant for many different types of music. 

I love teaching and I have taught since 2016. And I love the bass! I teach double bass, electric bass, band coaching, composition, improvisation, music theory. I have experience teaching complete beginners with zero prior musical knowledge to more advanced players. I have also taught all ages: from 5 to 61 year-olds! All ages are welcome in my lessons. 

I believe that every student is different and I always customize and adapt my lessons to your needs and your goals. And don’t worry if you’re not sure what those are yet, we can figure it out together! As I see it, music and learning should be most of all: fun! Of course it’s at times challenging, but we will focus on what you feel passionate about and see what works best for you.

Even though I specialize in jazz, I have played many genres and we can do anything you want. Pop, rock, punk, indie, world-music/folk funk, or anything else that you are interested in.

Relevant info for double bass students: Bringing your instrument to the lesson is not strictly necessary. We can use my instrument in the lesson.
