Hallo, muziek zoeker! Dus, zullen we afspreken?
...my journey with singing begun when I was 4 years old, when a period of activity began, filled with television shows and national competitions throughout Romania. Later on I was technically trained by Dana Dorian, one of the best vocal coaches in Romania, preparing for studying music at the National University of Music, Bucharest. In 2021 I arrived in The Netherlands to continue my vocal studies at the Prince Claus Conservatorium, undergoing the New York Jazz Master's program which I graduated in 2023.
During my bachelor years I became one of the most active voices of the new jazz generation in Romania and I performed with my musical project original compositions on festival stages and venues throughout Romania, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Turkey and the US.
Besides singing knowledge, I have extensive experience as a band leader and composer.
As a person and teacher, I enjoy real connections between people. I love working with people and I see teaching as a guiding towards the people's inner hidden possibilities. I am the guide who helps reveal what is already in there. I am warm and light-hearted, driven, passionate, compassionate and supportive. I like to create a safe space for experimentation, where any sound is welcome and we are completely comfortable with anything that our voices might bring.
During my Master's degree I conducted a research project focused on enhancing expressivity in singing. This two-year project led to numerous discoveries that I am using in my own professional practice, as well as in my teaching. It won the research prize of the conservatorium in 2023.
As a teacher, I have a holistic approach. Singing is intrinsically connected to our bodies and our bodies are connected to our minds. Oftentimes, when one of the parts is misalligned, all the others change too.
Regarding singing technique, I have focused on vocology - the science and practice of vocal habilitation, or vocal training. I am also using notions of CvT. My primary focus is to enable effortless, healthy singing. I became passionate about vocal technique when during my adolescence, due to the changes in my body, my voice also changed and I started losing my voice easily during singing, even after just a few songs. I knew I had to change something and I started taking vocal lessons, focused mainly on technique for a few months. Thanks to my then teacher, Dana Dorian, my voice came back and I was able to sing effortlessly, no matter how challenging the music. That was the beginning of my passion for the vocal aparatus and since then, I have been studying the ways in which sound happens and how we can optimize our technique to produce quality sounds with very little effort.
But, of course, singing is much more than just a good technique. I am also qualified to teach interpretation, improvisation, composition, music theory and to coach you for an audition. My extensive experience as a band leader performing original compositions taught me a lot about how optimal musical communication in a band must happen and I have a lot of tools to improve the sound of a band. Besides that, depending on the needs of the student, I am working with mindfulness, grounding and centering techniques.
The road we take can be very intensive, focused on achieving great technique and excellence, but it can also be restorative, focused on getting to know our own voices and bodies and enjoying the psychological and physical healing provided by singing.
