My name is Panos Tsamouras and I was born in Greece in 1998.
I am a guitarist, composer, a film composer and a teacher.
Guitar:
I started playing the classical guitar at the age of 10. Through the years, I loved the classical guitar repertoire but I wanted to play songs closer to my music taste. So I got into the process of creating my own t ranscriptions for Greek folk songs, rebetiko songs and classical Ottoman songs. As I progressed as a guitar player, I realized that I have created a very personal way of playing these songs and during my studies in Thessaloniki I created two bands which interpreted this repertoire by blending the classical guitar technique with the aesthetics of Greek folk music. These bands were Gidelim (with Anastasia-Sofia Anastasopoulou) as a singer and Ninemia band (with Amanda Ploubi as a singer and Maria Kyrvei as a cellist). However, the highlight of my progress in creating and playing these transcriptions was at my classical guitar graduation concert (June 2021) where Kostas Grigoreas , one of the most famous Greek guitar players, asked me to write an article in TAR website about one of my transcriptions .
Composition:
I graduated from the Department of Music Science & Art in Thessaloniki back in 2021.My specialty was Contemporary Composition and my professor was Giorgos Kyriakakis. During my studies, I composed over 30 works where I learned how to use modal music, timbre, contemporary instrument techniques, harmony, texture etc. Meanwhile, I composed music for 6 theatrical plays and literature podcasts. My passion for composing music for other forms of art too, led me to apply to several universities in order to continue with Postgraduate studies in Composing for Film. Even though 5 universities accepted my offer, my final choice was Codarts University in Rotterdam.
Teaching Experience (Guitar and Music Theory):
My first students were in Thessaloniki during my studies. Although I didn't have any teaching experience before ,I loved teaching from day one and after 3 years,I still love it !
My (main)subjects are 1)Classical Guitar, 2) (Greek) Folk Guitar, 3)Music Theory, 4) Harmony and 5)Modal music.
What I believe as a teacher and what I have experienced from all my students, is that the combination of the subjects mentioned above is the key to success: the classical technique of an instrument, the effect of other genres of music and the theoretical knowledge.
