I am a 25 years old bass player from Chile, currently living in Utrecht NL as I came to study my bachelor in jazz & pop music.
I have been dedicating myself full time to music and the bass guitar since I was 11 years old, and then 15 when I also picked up the double bass as a 2nd instrument.
I have gone through multiple different music styles, starting at first with blues and rock, funk and pop, then going into jazz, Brazilian music such as Bossa Nova and Samba, Latin music such as Salsa and Boleros, Latin American rhythms from my home country like Cueca, Landó and Waltz from Perú, caribbean music from Aruba and Suriname, to classical and baroque music with the double bass.
Through all these musical experiences of different styles and teachers, I also became passionate about teaching music, I love teaching as much as I love playing.
Music is a game to be enjoyed, so I would like to help you reach your musical goals with this perspective of love and enjoyment from music, be that becoming a professional musician some day, or just for the sakes of learning for casual fun playing with others at the jam session.
I've been dedicating myself full time to music and the bass since I was 11 years old and the double bass since I was 15 (I'm currently 25), I have gone through multiple music styles, from rock and blues, to funk and pop, to R&B, to jazz and fusion, to world music such as Brazilian, Latin and some Caribbean, to more Classical and Baroque, all through different teachers, from whom I learned how to understand mostly any music from the western tradition, and became inspired to bwcoming a teacher myself.
To me my goal as a teacher is to help the student get where he/she wants to be musically, wether that be more from technique, or from knowledge and music understanding through theory and practice.
I have been dedicating myself to teaching private lessons 1 on 1 for the past year, with very good results and improvements in my students playing and overall lifes through the joy of playing music, that's what I want to offer to you.
In my lessons you'll find assistance on improving technique and orientationg yourself in the instrument, repertoire of your choice, and if you are interested, music reading and theory applied on to the music you like, this I personally recommend because it enhances a general musical understanding and allows you to learn and reach your musical goals more efficiently.
As a full time musician and an active conservatory student (currently at my 3rd year of the jazz & pop department at the HKU conservatorium in Utrecht), I know exactly what the standards of knowledge and skills are when you want to get into conservatory leaving a good impretion, as I went through the audition processes of different schools here in the Netherlands.
I can say when you're under the scope of teachers evaluating you, they are not only seeing what you show in that moment only, but also considering your potential (based on this skills you're showing, your motivations, and your maturity), so I'd like to help you get the best version of yourself to show in this processes, through guidance/assistance with music theory and understanding, music reading (solfege), hearing training, and playing and improvisation (in relation to jazz specially).
As a full time musician, the one thing that helped and enhanced my progress in jazz and any other music enquiries was theory, it's a fascinating subject which is also accompanied from the practical application of its content, ideally in the music you like, to me theory is as much of a game as the actual playing, so I want to help you get comfortable with theory easy and as simple as possible, it's no rocket science as it seems some times, if you're interested in it I would love to help you learn, with no prejudice, no shame in not knowing, and no problem in explaining things multiple times and different ways, always aiming to use it with the music you like.
As a professional bass player, I was exposed to learning how to play double bass when I was 15 years old, to be a whole round musician with experience in both the classical world and the popular music (jazz, pop, rock etc).
What I learned from this experience was the technique for left hand specially (this allows a clean, and well intonated sound), and expression/phrasing with the classical repertoire through vibrato and a consistent sound with the bow.
I studied classical double bass for 6-7 years as a secondary instrument, yet with the same amount of love as my bass guitar playing.
If you'd like to learn how to play this beautiful instrument, I'd be happy to get you started and could guide you to a good decent medium level.
