Ik ben Porter, een slagwerker en leraar gevestigd in Rotterdam.  Als je het altijd al hebt willen leren, al ervaring hebt of audities plant, sta ik klaar om je te helpen en te delen wat ik weet om je te helpen je absolute top te bereiken. Ik werk flexibel en individueel, dus afhankelijk van je behoeften wordt je lesplan op maat gemaakt. Probeer een proefles en kijk of het iets is dat bij je past! Ik kom uit de VS en kan lesgeven in het Engels of Nederlands, ik ben nog Nederlands aan het leren!

Hi everyone! My name is Porter, I am a percussionist and vibraphonist who can't wait to explore these instruments with you. If you have always wanted to learn, already have experience, or are planning auditions, I am ready to help and share what I know to help you achieve your absolute best. I work flexibly and individually, so depending on your needs, your lesson plan is custom made. Try a trial lesson and see if it's something that fits!

From the age of 10, I was very interested in drums as a fun hobby. I took lessons, played rhythm games, and eventually went into the marching band at high school. By that point, I also started playing in youth orchestras and doingas much as I could within music. Rock bands, jazz bands, small improv groups, and larger orchestral opportunities meant I knew I wanted to be a musician for life. After college and studying contemporary percussion, I wanted to go somewhere new and decided Den Haag was the place for me, as an opportunity to work and learn with Slagwerk Den Haag was too good to pass up. Now, I work full time as a performer around the Netherlands in New. European Ensemble, Asko Schoenberg, and HIIIT, as well as my own ensemble, Ear to the Earth.  

I am so excited to share this passion with you!  My goals for every lesson are to grow together, learn something new each time, and deliver a session that meets your needs. Overall I have 5 years of experience with ages ranging from 5 years to 65 years old! I love to learn, and am so excited to work with you and learn a bit more about what music can be and what we can achieve together.

Wanted to play a mallet instrument but never knew how to begin? This is for you! Through simple methods utilizing a pad and sticks, we can begin from beginner level all the way to full solo repertoire on the vibraphone. With a focus on music theory and performing repertoire, we will learn together what inspires you on the instrument while following a personalized lesson plan including etudes, exercises, and songs that can be done on and off the instrument, so you don't need one with you at all times. Get ready to have fun learning the vibraphone! Do you wish to have more in depth lessons as an experienced player? No problem! We can tailor the lessons to your wishes. As a virtuoso vibraphonist, Porter is capable on the instrument, having performed it internationally and in competition settings. 

Learn the basics of the drumset, play your favorite songs, and bring music into your life! Porter's drumset lessons are for all ages and levels. Intended for the amateur percussionist, these lessons will provide you with a foundation for playing different styles of grooves, playing along to real music, and practicing your limb independence to strengthen your brain and your muscle memory! From country to jazz to hip hop and rock, we can cover any genre of music and what makes each style so unique on the drums. With a method-based practice, Porter began his studies on drumset, and has since then gone on to perform on it in rock bands and jazz bands his whole career. Let's rock!

Cajon is a special instrument that allows you to play wherever you want. Through combination of rhythm studies and playalong, we will learn how to play this beautiful instrument and the different styles of music it traditionally comes from. Likewise, each student has the opportunity to bring in music they want to learn, and we will come up with how we can play along to it! No experience is required for this course.
